About Us

Sally & Richard's story began on the Caribbean Island of Tortola, in the beautiful British Virgin Islands. Richard first learned the family craft from his parents who had been jewelers there since the 1970's.

Richard's mother May moves to the B.V.I.

Her eldest daughter June opens "Samarkand Jewellers" at The Pub in Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

June passes on Samarkand to May and heads back to Canada and eventually starts the"One of A Kind" Canadian Craft Show.

During this period May & Geoff relocate the shop to Village Cay Marina in Road Town Tortola until they close and retire in 1986.

Richard, June's brother, and his wife Sally re-open Samarkand shop on Historic Main Street in the heart of Road Town.

For 30 years Sally & Richard create unique lines of tropically inspired jewellery & provide custom design and jewellery repair services. They shared in the joy of life of a beautiful British Virgin Islands with locals and tourists alike.

In 1992 Richard & Sally discovered and introduced the local stone Green Jasper, and naming it "Tortola Green Jasper" & exclusively trading it as "Virgin Jasper"

Irma a Category 5 Hurricane followed by Maria in September 2017 and all it's effects, both forced the closure of the family business of 46 years & severely damaged the family home.

Sally and Richard are rebuilding. Richard is now bringing their wealth of experience in creating quality Caribbean treasures to the International market online.
